Hive-Five Multi-Guard notch diagram - only National floors with a notch cut need an extender

You ONLY need an extender if your National hive floor has a notch cut into the entrance, like the one pictured above. If your National floor doesn't have this notch, or if you have a Langstroth, Maisemore, Smith, Dadant, Commercial or Hyde Long Hive, the Multi-Guard fits straight on with no extender needed.

The Multi-Guard was designed to solve several common issues—one of which is the varying sizes of wooden entrance blocks due to different hive floor openings. Our solution? We created a design where the central section fits snugly into smaller hive entrances, while the adjustable 'wings' on either end extend to cover any extra space for longer entrances. This ensures a secure fit across a wide range of hive setups, eliminating gaps and improving overall protection and performance.

If your National floor does have the notch and needs an extender, simply add the required amount at checkout (a £2 set contains an extender for each end) and we will colour match.

  • WBC - Sadly we haven't been able to make this fit yet! So many designs but each one incompatible with the Multi-Guard.
  • Thorne Langstroth - ever so slightly narrower than a standard Langstroth - if you would like us to trim 10mm off the main entrance block simply add a note at checkout.
  • Abelo - We are working on an adaptor so Abelo users can use the screens in the entrance slots.
  • Swienty - please contact us direct as we can offer a slimmed down version that allows for the sloping entrance of the Swienty hive.
